When I'm giving presentations to doll collectors what always seems to catch me off guard is the question "What's inside the doll?". It had never occurred to me but at the same time makes perfect sense to want to know what dolls are made of and how they are put together. But it can certainly be scary or even undesirable to take your newly purchased doll and take her completely apart to see how she ticks. I mean, what happens if you can't figure out how to put her back together?
The answer is actually simple, you don't take apart a doll in good condition unless you know what you are doing. It breaks my heart sometimes to rip the wig off a new doll or take her head off but it's always because I'm creating a custom.
So what do you see when you take off a My Twinn doll head?
What you see is a plastic cog looking part often referred to as a disk that will have glue residue on it and a stump sticking out for which the head sits on. If you've ever had a My Twinn doll with a wobbly head, it is most likely because the glue loosened at some point and the head became unattached from this disk. This glue responds to heat so you can easily put your blow dryer on it for 10 minutes and it will get nice and sticky again. You can reattach the head pushing it down against the sticky glue and letting it cool and then reattach a zip tie or neckstring at the neck.
