Vintage Madame Alexander Dolls have begun to deteriorate due to their age leaving many of these beloved dolls naturally falling apart as their internal elastics fail from age. Even if your doll has been stored in the box for all that time and never touched, the elastics will likely fail as soon as you handle the doll.
Feel brave enough for some DIY? This restringing kit is specifically sized for the 8" tall Madame Alexander dolls to restore your doll back to new and mint condition. This kit fixes 1-doll. You can purchase more than one to fix a collection of dolls.
The Kit contains:
1 - 12" Piece of Paracord Elastic (Used to string the head to the legs)
1 - Long Neck Hook (Used to attach to the head bar)
2 - Small S Hooks (Used to attach to the leg bars)
1 - Rubber Loop (Used to string the arms together)
Note that you will need a hemostat or a pair of tweezers to restring. We sell a hemostat to restring dolls in our shop.
1. Remove all your doll's clothing, handtag, and hat if applicable. Attach the neck hook to the bar inside the head. This should look like a steel bar, do not attach to the eyes mechanism by mistake. The wide end of the hook should go inside of the head leaving the smaller side for the cord. Carefully set aside holding the hook so that it rests on a table.
2. Attach each leg hook to the bars inside the leg using the wider side of the hook to go around the bar and the smaller side hanging outside for the cord. Set aside on your table.
3. Grab both arms. Set one on your table you can go left to right or right to left whichever you feel most comfortable. Use the rubber loop and thread it inside the arm hook and pull to make sure it is secure. Put the arm on your doll's arm socket feeding the loop inside the body. Hold in place. Take your hemostat or tweezers and stick it through the opposite arm hole to grab the rubber loop and pull it through to the other side. You will want to clamp your hemostat or move the tweezers up far enough so that the loop does not snap back through the armhole while you attach the other arm. Pull the loop far enough out with one hand and thread the other arm onto the loop into it's hook. Release your tweezers or hemostat and both arms will be attached to each other.
4. Grab the head being careful not to dislodge the neck hook. Thread the paracord through the small end and make it an even amount of cord on both sides.
5. Stick both ends of paracord through the body and out of a leg hole putting left side of the cord through the left leg hole and right side of the cord through the right leg hole, do not twist.
6. Thread the paracord through each of the leg hooks, then bring one side of the paracord end to feed through the other leg hole so that both ends are coming out of one leg hole.
7. Using both ends of the paracord, tie a square knot (one knot on top of another) pulling up all the slack of the cords so that the cord is nice and tight. The head and legs should be fully in the sockets and be nice and tight.
8. Cut the excess cord above the knot leaving a small tail. Stuff the knot into the body and move the leg into the leg socket position. Your doll is now properly strung and can be redressed.
