This is for a reproduction of Patti Playpal's purple cotton dress with organdy and lace pinafore c1961-1962. This set has two pieces the under dress and the pinafore piece which are separate pieces and can be interchanged with other pieces in our collection.
The underdress is made from a lavender and is a red purple vs a blue purple, though we could not find the original shade of purple used for the original dress. The set is made with a single layer dress. We've omitted the cotton liner or slip on the inside to allow the dress to be used with a petticoat. We have constructed each set to allow customers to mix and match the pieces so they are all made using a similar specification to allow for that. For example, this dress can be worn with the pinafore as shown, it can be worn without the pinafore, it can be worn without the pinafore with an added petticoat to make it super full and fluffy (additional piece in our collection), and it can be interchanged with other pinafores in our collection to change the looks.
The dress has a 2.5" deep hem done with an invisible hem stitch and an approximately 9" long skirt to hit at the thigh, the bodice is self lined and the puffed sleeves and elastic casing at the edge of the sleeve. The collar is a curved dress collar with white lace trim. The dress snaps in back and are sewn to be invisible on the inside. The original had square snaps however we have used modern snaps for closure. The collar is self lined and top stitched.
The original pinafore looks like it was a pattern or embroidery on a very sheer fabric. The edges are described as being trimmed with a looped edging, however it looks like serging around the edge to us that has pulled away with age. As we couldn't find any fabric similar, we constructed the pinafore using white organdy and used a flat lace to mimic the pattern occurring on the original fabric in rows about 1" apart. The lace runs horizontally on the top and back and then vertically along the skirt. We've constructed a waistband that ties at the waist in the back with a large bow and folded over tails to mimic the original. The pinafore naturally flares outwards because of the stiffness of the organdy. Pinafore snaps at back much like the dress.
This dress set is part of the Patti Playpal Reproduction Wardrobe Series by Bbeauty Dolls and has been created as a tribute to the original outfits that debuted from 1959-1961 for the Patti Playpal Dolls. This dress set is not an original but modeled after the original.
Dresses will fit Patti Playpal herself and any Companion Dolls that have the same body measurements. Thinner Companion Dolls may still be able to wear the collection as most pinafores tie at the waist and are loose fitting.
